DIN 933 HEX HEAD BOLT — DIMENSIONS & ISO 4017 EQUIVALENCE

DIN 933 is the legacy German designation for the fully threaded hexagon head bolt. The current standard behind it is DIN EN ISO 4017, i.e. ISO 4017:2022 — and because the dimension tables are identical, the tables below are the ISO 4017:2022 tables. If your drawing says DIN 933, these are the dimensions you need; if you are issuing a new drawing, specify ISO 4017:2022.

9. Materials and finishes

DIN 933 screws are quoted in carbon steel and alloy steel in the property classes above, stainless steel in A2 (304) and A4 (316), and the standard fastener coatings: zinc plated, hot-dip galvanized, dacromet and zinc-nickel (FLZNL). See surface treatment for coating comparisons.

10. How to order

To quote a DIN 933 screw, state: standard (DIN 933 or ISO 4017:2022), size × length (e.g., M10 × 40), property class (8.8, 10.9, A2-70 …), finish or coating, and quantity. Where the drawing is silent, state which thread length or tolerance applies.

11. FAQ

Is DIN 933 still a valid standard?

DIN 933 is the legacy German designation for the fully threaded hexagon head bolt. The current standard is DIN EN ISO 4017 (ISO 4017:2022); DIN 933 dimensions match it, which is why the DIN 933 designation is still used by buyers and on drawings.

What is the difference between DIN 933 and DIN 931?

DIN 933 is fully threaded; DIN 931 is the partially threaded version (now ISO 4014). Head dimensions are the same — the difference is the thread length b.

Is DIN 933 the same as ISO 4017?

Dimensionally yes. The tables on this page are the ISO 4017:2022 tables, which DIN 933 follows. Use ISO 4017:2022 for new drawings.

Which property classes are available?

Our data set lists 5.6, 5.8, 8.8, 10.9 and 12.9 for steel, and A2-70 / A4-70 for stainless steel. Class selection refers to ISO 898-1 and ISO 3506-1.

What is the thread pitch for M10 and M12?

M10 coarse pitch is 1.5 mm, M12 is 1.75 mm. Pitch for every size is the first row of the tables.

What sizes does DIN 933 cover?

The dimension tables run from M1.6 to M64 in the ISO 4017:2022 split: grade A for M1.6–M24 and grade B for M16–M64.

Can you supply DIN 933 in stainless steel or with a coating?

Yes — A2 / A4 stainless steel, and zinc plated, hot-dip galvanized, dacromet or zinc-nickel (FLZNL) finishes. Confirm the coating class on the order.

How much does a DIN 933 bolt weigh?

See the theoretical weight table: M10 × 40 is about 31.9 kg per 1,000 pieces. Values are geometric estimates ±5%, excluding coating and chamfers.
